Kidney Disease
The Wait is Over
Living Donor Program can provide you with the kidney you need faster
If you or a loved one is suffering from End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and have inquired about being placed on a kidney transplant list, you already are aware of the long waiting time – as long as two to three years. The number of cadaver organs available has remained the same, while the number of patients locally and nationally with ESRD continues to rise.
Thanks to the advances in anti-rejection medications, it’s now possible to receive kidneys not only from blood relatives, but also from unrelated individuals such as spouses or friends.
Any potential living donor at our program will receive counseling on the potential risks and complications, and then undergo a thorough evaluation to ensure there are no abnormalities that would increase the risk of surgery for either the donor or the recipient.
We have the latest technologies available including the ability to perform laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, a minimally invasive procedure to remove living donor kidneys using operating telescopes. Many living donors are eligible for laparoscopic kidney removal, offering a quicker recovery and less pain from surgery.
If you or a loved one is interested in living donation or learning more about it, please contact us at 610-402-CARE. Your call is strictly confidential.
